The call usually starts one of two ways. Either the opener has gone quiet - no light, no hum, nothing when you press the remote or wall button - or it's running but the door won't fully seat, reversing partway down like it's hitting something invisible. Across the 191,797 households in our service area, with 122,308 of those being owner-occupied houses, we see the same pattern a lot: a chain-drive unit from the original build era straining against a door and spring setup it was never resized for after years of weather cycling. Sometimes it's simpler - the logic board has just aged out, which lines up with the 1957-2007 build range across the area, meaning plenty of openers are well past the point where a board repair makes more sense than replacement. Either way, by the time you're calling, the opener has usually been struggling for a while before it quit outright.
